OpenAI says Premium seats are coming to ChatGPT Business, creating a higher-usage option for teams that run more demanding work through ChatGPT. In its own post, OpenAI says customers who sign up by August 20 can receive $100 in workspace credits and unlock higher usage for a team’s most demanding work. The commercial details come from The Decoder, which reports that Premium Seats cost $125 per user per month, or $100 per user per month with annual billing. The existing Standard Seats remain at $25 per month, or $20 with annual billing, according to the report. The Decoder says Premium users receive five times the usage capacity of Standard users, are not subject to the five-hour usage limit, and have usage reset weekly. The report also says organizations can mix Standard and Premium seats inside the same workspace, allowing admins to assign higher-capacity seats only to employees who need them. That structure matters because OpenAI is not replacing the lower-priced ChatGPT Business seat in the account described by The Decoder. It is adding a more expensive tier for heavier users, while preserving a lower-cost option for standard users in the same workspace. The Decoder frames the change as a response to teams using ChatGPT for more complex work, including agent-based AI workflows that consume more tokens. OpenAI’s own summary is narrower, saying Premium seats are intended to unlock higher usage for a team’s most demanding work. The pricing gap is material. On a monthly basis, the reported Premium Seat price is five times the reported Standard Seat price. With annual billing, the reported Premium price is also five times the reported Standard price. Because The Decoder reports that organizations can mix seat types within the same workspace, the change is closer to an added capacity tier than a blanket replacement of the existing Standard Seat. Who benefits: Heavy ChatGPT Business users and workspace admins benefit most if Premium seats deliver the reported capacity increase and can be assigned selectively. Who's exposed: Organizations choosing Premium seats would face reported per-user prices above the existing Standard Seat level.
