An apparent Nvidia DLSS 5 component has surfaced ahead of launch, and modders have already pushed it into a different game. According to Tom’s Hardware, Renan Maniero found a new Nvidia library, nvngx_dlssnr.dll, inside the early-access build of NBA 2K27. The file is named Nvidia DLSSNR and appears to be associated with Nvidia’s DLSS 5 neural rendering technology. Tom’s Hardware reports that a developer behind RenoDX, a modding toolset, then got the library running in Control and applied it to the game’s character models. The implementation shown publicly is not an official Nvidia release and should be treated as an early injected build rather than a final benchmark of the technology. The report says the modded version exposes seven controls, including sliders for style, intensity, tone, and structure strength. That suggests the leaked component is not just a conventional upscaler DLL, but part of Nvidia’s broader neural-rendering work, though the exact capabilities of the final DLSS 5 release remain unconfirmed from this material. The most concrete performance datapoint is also the one that needs the most caution. Tom’s Hardware says the RenoDX developer reported on Discord that DLSS 5 currently runs only on Blackwell GPUs. In one RTX 5070 Ti test at 4K, enabling the technology reportedly cut performance from 71 frames per second to 35 frames per second. That number is not enough to define the product. The developer did not specify the DLSS 5 settings or the internal rendering resolution used, according to Tom’s Hardware, so the result cannot be treated as representative of final performance. It also does not prove Blackwell-only support at launch; it only describes the current behavior of the leaked implementation used by modders. The timing lines up with Nvidia’s public roadmap as summarized by Tom’s Hardware. Nvidia introduced DLSS 5 in March and said it would launch this fall. The technology initially drew a mixed response, partly because Nvidia’s own March demonstration ran on two RTX 5090s, indicating a demanding model.
